Assassin’s Creed Valhalla finally has New Game+. Ubisoft released its free Title Update 1.8.0 on 5 November for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, adding a way to restart Eivor’s adventure with progression carried over.

Start by checking your existing save’s quest progress before restarting.

How to unlock New Game+

According to Ubisoft’s patch notes, you must complete Holy Day, the final quest in the Hamtunscire region, to access New Game+.

That is a more useful checkpoint than simply being told to finish the game. Ubisoft says Holy Day comes before the true ending, and it deliberately placed the unlock there because Valhalla is so large. If your save has not reached that point, you still have some story work ahead of you.

Each successive New Game+ run becomes harder. The feature is aimed at players who want to revisit the adventure with their existing progression while facing another round of challenges.

More room to experiment with your build

Ubisoft’s overview introduces Mithril, a resource awarded in New Game+ when you find gear or a Book of Knowledge you already own. It is also available from Niflheim, Mastery and River Raid shops, giving players another route to obtain it without starting over.

The patch notes also confirm Divine-quality gear can now reach upgrade level 27. Access to Divine upgrades also extends to players who do not own Dawn of Ragnarök, widening the equipment options beyond that expansion’s owners.

An optional progression mode makes gear, runes and masteries contribute to your Power score. Meanwhile, Ravensthorpe gains a stash for equipment and runes, and the Rune Forge gets upgrade options, including a new Superior rune tier that requires Mithril.

Before restarting, check your equipment, runes and inventory. These changes give returning players something to work on even if another complete playthrough is not appealing.

What changes on PS5 Pro?

PS5 Pro gets a separate visual upgrade through improved PSSR support. In an official PlayStation Blog interview, Ubisoft describes sharper 4K image quality and a Quality mode running at 60fps. The developer also describes the upscaled image as more visually stable.

The studio says this work improves the rendering pipeline rather than rebuilding the game’s visual assets. These are Ubisoft’s stated improvements, rather than findings from a side-by-side performance test.

The PSSR improvements apply specifically to PS5 Pro. The wider New Game+ update also reaches the other supported consoles and PC listed above.

Download sizes vary by platform. Ubisoft lists 5.26GB on PS5, 7.8GB on Steam and 15.02GB on Xbox Series X|S in its patch notes. Check your updater before settling in, then look for that Holy Day completion if another run is the plan.
