Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches on 3 November, bringing Atari and Pipeworks’ giant-monster fighter back for a new round of city-smashing battles. A new PlayStation fighter guide published ahead of release puts the focus on choosing a kaiju whose strengths suit the way you play.

For South African players weighing up a purchase, the useful distinction is between the announced release date and a verified local store offer. The official sources confirm the 3 November launch, but we have not confirmed a South African rand price or a local unlock time. Check your own platform’s regional listing before paying.

A remaster built around monster matchups

The game revisits the 2002 arena fighter with 12 playable monsters. According to the official PlayStation listing, its eight locations have day and night versions, buildings can become weapons, and the remaster adds single-player campaigns for individual kaiju alongside changes to how monsters unlock.

That makes the city more than a backdrop. The appeal is the combination of recognisable creatures, destructible surroundings and rivals with different tools, rather than a straight exchange of punches. If you are returning after years away, choosing a familiar face is a starting point, not a guarantee that every matchup will feel the same.

Start with a monster that fits your style

PlayStation’s guide describes Heisei Godzilla as a balanced option, while Godzilla 2000 trades some strength for speed. Gigan favours close-range pressure, Rodan is fast but less durable, and King Ghidorah gives players a way to threaten opponents from a distance. Those differences are a more useful starting point than assuming the biggest-looking monster will be the easiest to learn.

Our practical suggestion is to try contrasting fighters before settling on one. Learn how each closes distance, escapes pressure and uses the environment. This is a launch overview based on official information, not a hands-on verdict on balance, online performance or the quality of the remaster.

Check the multiplayer requirements

The PS5 listing supports one to four local players and lists two-player online play, with PlayStation Plus required online. Local and online player counts are therefore not interchangeable. For a couch session, check that you have enough controllers; for remote matches, confirm the subscription requirement before arranging a game.

A Godzilla Day release

The timing also lines up with Godzilla Day. Godzilla’s official celebration guide marks 72 years since the original 1954 film and includes the remaster among this year’s releases. It also points PC players towards a Steam demo, offering a way to investigate the game before committing.
