World of Warcraft: Forever will include official Gamepad Alpha support at launch, giving PC players a controller option for exploring Azeroth. Xbox Wire detailed the feature on 2 November, ahead of the global release later this week.
For South African players, Blizzard’s announced launch time of 4 November at 23:00 GMT converts to 01:00 SAST on Thursday, 5 November. That date change matters if you are planning a launch session with friends: the advertised Wednesday release falls after midnight here.
Controller play arrives in alpha
Xbox Wire says the option is enabled through the game’s settings. On-screen prompts then change to controller buttons, with triggers and bumpers switching between mapped actions. The interface also offers a Compact Action Bar to reduce the space taken up by controls.
This is a PC control feature, not an Xbox console release announcement. The report’s hands-on impressions belong to Xbox Wire; TGR has not tested the controls.
The alpha label is also worth keeping in mind. Players planning a different setup should try its controls and interface before relying on it for a long group session. A new input option can change how you sit down to play without automatically making every part of an online RPG equally comfortable.
Handheld play has a qualification

Xbox Wire also tested Forever on an ASUS ROG Xbox Ally, but explicitly says that setup is not officially supported yet. Its author describes adjustments to interface size and positioning, and recommends keeping a keyboard or voice chat available for communication.
Treat that as a reported experiment, not a guarantee for every Windows handheld. The screenshots demonstrate the controller interface; they are not TGR performance tests or evidence of battery life.
Access comes with WoW subscription or game time
Blizzard says Forever access is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or game time. Optional upgrade packs are separate, so buying one should not be confused with the basic access requirement.
Forever is intended as a permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW, returning players to the original continents with progression to level 60 and new stories. For returning South African players, the immediate checklist is straightforward: confirm your account access, check the client before launch and put the correct local time in your plans.
