DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered launches on 10 November 2026, with Aspyr bringing the 2004 action-adventure back to PC and consoles. The reveal on 20 October puts four-player co-op at the centre of the return, including an option to combine players on the couch with friends online.

For anyone who remembers gathering around one screen with Shrek, Fiona and Donkey, that is the feature to pay attention to. The remaster is an announced upcoming release, so this is a look at the confirmed features rather than a review of how it plays.

Which platforms are confirmed?

Aspyr’s official announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. All are named for 10 November.

The publisher promises improved textures, interface and cutscenes, plus Photo Mode and a cheats menu. Its 4K claim has a platform-specific qualification: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 in docked mode are included. The original Switch is not part of that 4K statement.

Couch, online or a mixture of both

The announcement supports solo play and up to four players in local, online or mixed co-op. “Mixed” here describes local players joining online multiplayer. It should not be read as confirmation that PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC users can all play across platforms; that has not been established by the sources checked.

The official PS5 listing specifies one to four players locally and up to four online players with PlayStation Plus. Online play is optional, and DualSense vibration is supported. If you are buying mainly to play with friends, check the subscription and multiplayer details for your chosen platform before placing an order.

What the adventure involves

The publisher’s Steam page describes a journey from Shrek’s swamp to Far Far Away, with combat, bosses and environmental puzzles. Players can swap heroes and use their different abilities to progress. The emphasis is on a shared action-adventure through familiar film locations, with hidden references along the way.

PC players should also check the requirements rather than assuming a remaster of an older game will run on any laptop. The current Steam listing specifies 16GB of RAM, DirectX 12 and 12GB of available storage. Its minimum processor options are a Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-12400F; the store lists separate graphics requirements and higher recommended specifications.

The South African buying check

The international announcement and store pages establish the release plan, but they do not confirm a South African rand price or local physical-stock availability. Check your account’s regional storefront for the final amount and edition before paying. We are not converting a US promotional price into a supposed local offer.

If the co-op works for your group, the appeal is straightforward: a familiar adventure that can bring people together on one screen or online. Performance, online stability and the quality of the remaster will need to be judged after release.
