Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has launched for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing motion-controlled sport back to Wuhu Island. Nintendo announced the release on 22 October 2026, and the Nintendo Online Store South Africa currently lists the standalone game at R1,199.
That local listing was checked on 23 October. It appears in the store’s in-stock collection, but stock and prices can change; confirm the product and delivery details before paying. View the South African store listing.
Twelve sports, one island
The line-up spans boxing, table tennis, archery, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf, thumb wrestling, skateboarding, power cruising and prop-plane activities. Away from competitions, players can explore Wuhu Island at three different times of day.
Nintendo also describes Island Crown progression and customisable Sportsmate or Mii characters. It is a broader island playground rather than just a menu of individual matches. Source: Nintendo’s launch announcement.

Check your console and controllers
Despite the name, this release is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Do not buy it expecting it to run on an original Switch or Switch Lite.
Nintendo says existing Joy-Con controllers work in most cases, but skateboarding specifically requires Joy-Con 2. Multiplayer may need additional accessories, and online features require a Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online membership.
For a family setup, that controller distinction is worth checking before inviting everyone around. The game price alone does not tell you whether you already have enough compatible controllers for the activities you want to play.
The South African buying picture
The same local collection also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 and Sports Resort bundle at R12,499 at the time of checking. That is a separate console bundle, not the standalone game price. We have not checked out either product or verified delivery to a particular address.
If you already own Switch 2, start with the standalone listing and check your controllers. If you are buying your first console, compare the complete bundle contents rather than assuming two offers include the same extras.
Nintendo’s US announcement promotes an online-membership trial, but regional eligibility varies. We have not confirmed that offer for South Africa, so it is not included as a local buying benefit here.
