Kaiju No. 8 is taking its anime finale to the big screen. The franchise’s official Japanese website announced on 24 October that a theatrical film will conclude the anime in 2027.
That is a Japanese release window, not a confirmed South African cinema date. The announcement does not name a local distributor or a streaming release, so South African fans will need to wait for those details before planning a screening.
A film finale, not a new season announcement
The update identifies the next concluding instalment as a movie. It does not announce another television season or provide a specific opening day. The official material calls it the theatrical Kaiju No. 8 film; an English subtitle has not been established by the Japanese announcement.
The reveal includes a new teaser visual by Shinji Kimura, who also served as art director on the television anime. It shows a huge creature towering over a damaged city, setting the scale without explaining the film’s plot. The poster credits Shigeyuki Miya as director and Production I.G for animation.
Kafka’s voice actor responds

In a separate official statement, Masaya Fukunishi, the voice of Kafka Hibino and Kaiju No. 8, confirms that the film will bring the anime to its conclusion after the first two seasons.
He also points to a personal connection with the timing: he will turn 32 in 2027, the same age as Kafka. Fukunishi says he intends to give his all to the character and the work through its ending. His statement accompanies the film announcement rather than revealing story events.
Watch the official visual reveal
TOHO animation has released the short reveal below. It introduces the theatrical teaser visual; it should not be mistaken for a full story trailer.
For now, the confirmed news is the format and year: the anime’s conclusion is a theatrical film planned for 2027 in Japan. No South African release date or streaming availability has been confirmed in the checked announcement.
