Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown expansion has launched, bringing ocean exploration, more character stories and new ways to build a life in Pywel. Pearl Abyss confirmed the release on 29 October at 22:00 UTC — midnight on 30 October in South Africa. That time conversion is not confirmation of South African storefront availability, which we have not independently verified.
The practical question for returning players is not just what the DLC adds. It is which parts your current save can access.

Finish the right quests before setting sail
Pearl Abyss’s official features and prerequisites guide says the three new character storylines, one each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, become available through the Journal after completing the main story. The Garden of Trials boss challenge also requires the main questline to be finished.
Ocean exploration has a different starting point. Diving underwater has no special prerequisite, although it consumes breath. Shipbuilding requires a related questline that opens after establishing the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill. An ocean-focused storyline follows completion of Howling Hill too.
In other words, finishing the campaign is important for some headline features, but it is not a blanket requirement for everything at sea. Check your progress against the activity you actually want to try.

More than another set of fights
The expansion also includes deeper character relationships that can lead to romance and marriage, a more flexible housing system, and opportunities to manage facilities in liberated strongholds. Xbox Wire’s developer-written overview describes decorating captured castles and assigning comrades and equipment to businesses.
Those additions suggest a broader return to Pywel than simply collecting tougher weapons. Whether you prefer another combat challenge or a reason to explore between fights will help determine what interests you here. We have not played the expansion, so this is launch information rather than a review.
The free trial is not a DLC demo
A five-hour trial of the Enhanced base game is available to Xbox players and PlayStation Plus Premium or Deluxe subscribers, according to Pearl Abyss. It excludes Charting the Unknown, is limited to one use per account, and carries progress into a purchased full game. Check the offer on your own regional account before relying on access.
The launch notice also confirms Mac support, superseding the earlier statement that the Mac App Store would miss launch. Mac updates may arrive later than other platforms. Whichever version you use, Pearl Abyss says to install the latest base-game update before playing.
