Bass X Machina has arrived on Netflix, and the South African catalogue now lists all six episodes. The adult animated series launched on 3 November, bringing a steampunk Western from creator LeSean Thomas and animation studio Studio Mir to the service.

For local viewers, this is more than an overseas release announcement: the Netflix South Africa title page shows the season, its episode list and a 16 age rating. Check that rating before adding it to a family watchlist.

A Western built around machines and family

The premise follows a father trying to protect his family in a lawless West shaped by dangerous machines, outlaws and supernatural threats. Netflix’s official production announcement identifies Brian Tyree Henry as an executive producer alongside Thomas, Jennifer Wiley-Moxley and Chad Handley.

Henry also leads the voice cast, with Tati Gabrielle and Cree Summer among the listed stars. Netflix describes the project as internationally produced animation influenced by anime, rather than presenting it as a Japanese production. That makes it a fit for viewers exploring adult animation beyond one country or genre.

What South African viewers can check before watching

The local listing includes English original audio, English audio description and English subtitles. It also marks the show as available to download. That is useful if you prefer to prepare viewing on Wi-Fi instead of streaming on a mobile connection, though you should check the download options offered by your own Netflix app and plan.

There is no need to read the episode summaries to decide whether the setting interests you. They reveal later story developments, so we have kept them out of this launch report. The official trailer is a better first stop if you want a sense of the visual style before committing to the season.
