No Man’s Sky is heading to iPhone and iPad. Hello Games announced the mobile version on 12 October 2026, with support extending beyond the newest Apple devices. There is a significant limitation to know before you plan a session with friends: the iOS version does not support multiplayer.
What is coming across to mobile?
Apple’s Indie Games Week announcement says the release includes every major content expansion to date, including the recent Cosmos update. Its description centres on the same exploration, trading, combat and survival loop across a procedurally generated galaxy.
The wider App Store event also features Sifu, Vampire Crawlers, Little Kitty, Big City, 9 Kings, Dome Keeper and Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall. No Man’s Sky is part of that promotion, but its mobile release is still ahead; inclusion in the announcement does not mean it is already playable.

Which iPhones and iPads are supported?
Hello Games says the game is playable on iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Air hardware and above. It also specifies that Planetary Settlements require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Reworked touch controls, controller support and mouse-and-keyboard support on iPad are among the announced input options.
Those details make device checks more useful than a simple yes-or-no compatibility question. A phone being able to run the game does not mean every feature will work on it. We have not tested this version, so performance and battery-life impressions will need to wait for hands-on play.
Release date: one detail still needs checking
Hello Games and Apple both announce 28 October 2026. At the time of checking, however, the US App Store page displays an expected date of 29 October. The sources do not explain that difference, so we are not treating either listing as a confirmed South African unlock time.
The App Store listing describes a free opening section followed by a one-time purchase to unlock the full game. “Free” on the store therefore does not mean the whole adventure costs nothing. The listing also reports a 3.8GB app and an iOS 26 requirement; check the compatibility information on your own device before making plans.
What this means for your next mobile game
For South African players, the appeal is being able to try a substantial exploration game on a device you may already own. Before downloading, check your local store for the release date and rand unlock price. The US page is useful for understanding the model, but it is not confirmation of local pricing.
The lack of multiplayer is the biggest decision point if your interest is exploring with a squad. If you enjoy setting your own goals and wandering at your own pace, the free opening section could be a useful way to judge the controls and performance before paying. Keep the expectations tied to what this mobile edition actually offers.
