Three Resident Evil remakes arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, 16 October 2026. Capcom’s confirmed line-up is Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. They are separate releases, not one bundled collection, and the timing gives Switch 2 owners a substantial survival-horror weekend just ahead of Halloween.
Nintendo’s October release roundup lists all three titles for 16 October. Capcom also announced the date on its official Resident Evil portal. South African buyers should check the live local eShop listing for price and the exact unlock time rather than rely on a foreign-region countdown.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition: start with Raccoon City
The remake of Resident Evil 2 follows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield through an outbreak that consumes Raccoon City. It mixes exploration, resource management and close encounters in a police-station setting. For anyone coming to the modern remakes for the first time, this is the obvious starting point: it introduces the characters and city central to the next game’s events.
The Deluxe Edition includes the main game and additional items such as character outfits, special weapon variants and an alternate original soundtrack option. Nintendo’s official product page spells out the inclusions, which are worth checking before comparing offers on different storefronts.
Resident Evil 3: a more relentless escape
Resident Evil 3 puts Jill Valentine at the centre of another Raccoon City disaster, with Nemesis acting as a persistent threat. Where the second game’s police-station exploration builds tension through careful searching, the third remake leans harder into pursuit and action. It is a different experience even though the city and outbreak connect the two stories.
The important buying point is that Resident Evil 3 is its own title. You do not need to buy all three at once, and it makes sense to decide based on which style of survival horror appeals to you. The official announcements do not justify claiming a particular Switch 2 frame rate or visual mode without further technical confirmation.

Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition: Leon heads to Spain
Resident Evil 4 shifts the action to a rural European setting. Leon, now a government agent, searches for the US president’s daughter and encounters enemies tied to a sinister cult. Compared with the Raccoon City games, there is a stronger action component, but tense exploration and limited resources remain part of the formula.
The Gold Edition includes the base game and the Separate Ways story expansion centred on Ada Wong, along with The Mercenaries and additional cosmetics and extras. Nintendo’s official listing provides the detailed contents. Do not confuse this with a standalone purchase of the original 2005 game.
Digital launch first; physical editions later
The publisher’s announcement schedules the Switch 2 digital versions for 16 October. Industry reporting on Capcom’s reveal also gives 29 January 2027 for physical versions, but buyers should confirm retail availability in South Africa separately. Stock, game-card formats and local preorder arrangements have not been independently verified for this report.
We also cannot responsibly quote rand prices without checking the South African eShop. Regional prices, promotions and taxes may differ from those in Europe or North America. Readers who prefer physical media should note that a digital launch does not mean a game card will necessarily be on local shelves this week.
For newcomers, our practical order is Resident Evil 2 first, then Resident Evil 3, and finally Resident Evil 4. That follows the main narrative connections while allowing the combat and pacing to evolve naturally. Experienced fans can simply pick their favourite; the three games are sold individually.
