BeamNG.drive’s announced PS5 release date is 19 October 2026, bringing the vehicle simulation to PlayStation in early access. The key launch caveat is already clear: mods and VR will not be supported at release.
For South African players who know BeamNG through spectacular crash clips, there is more to consider than the damage model. This is an actively developed simulation with a console feature set that should be judged on what is available now, rather than on everything you may have seen in a PC video.

What makes BeamNG different?
BeamNG’s official game overview explains that its soft-body physics simulates vehicle components in real time using a network of mass points and springs. That underpins how cars deform and react, rather than treating a crash as a fixed animation.
The broader attraction is experimentation: change the vehicle setup, find a route and see what happens. The PlayStation listing describes customisable cars and trucks, 12 open-world environments, free roaming, scenarios and time trials. Delivery challenges and pursuits offer structure when you would rather have an objective than invent your own.

Early access, without mods or VR at launch
The store description explicitly identifies the PlayStation release as early access. Development will continue after release, with player feedback helping shape improvements and additions. Buying at this stage means deciding whether the current experience is enough for you.
BeamNG says it wants to bring features into alignment across platforms where possible over the longer term, but has not committed to the timing or scope. In particular, the studio’s statement does not promise a date for console mods or VR.
If a specific community vehicle, map or VR setup is the main reason you want the game, check whether your expectations depend on those PC features. A console release should not be read as confirmation that every familiar PC add-on will work on PS5.
What SA players should check before buying
The PlayStation listing includes offline play, one to four players, and support for DualSense vibration and trigger effects. It also lists options such as controller remapping and adjustable stick sensitivity. The player-count entry alone should not be taken as a promise of online multiplayer or a particular split-screen layout.
We have not verified a South African rand price or local unlock hour. Use your South African PlayStation Store account to confirm the final price and purchase availability; an international listing’s countdown or currency is not a reliable substitute.
What about the PC update?
In the release-date announcement, BeamNG also said to expect PC version 0.40 around the PS5 release. That is a release window, not confirmation that the update is already live. PC players should check the official patch notes and their installed version before treating 0.40 as available.
