Housemarque has released Saros: Zenith, a free update that gives returning PS5 players tougher challenges while making its demanding combat easier to customise. The update arrived on 19 October, so this is something existing owners can download now, rather than another announcement to put on the calendar. The studio says its aim is both to push protagonist Arjun further and open the experience to more players. Housemarque’s launch announcement
Saros is the single-player science-fiction action game from the studio behind Returnal. It follows Soltari enforcer Arjun Devraj across Carcosa, a changing alien world overshadowed by an eclipse. Its core loop combines combat with permanent progression between runs, including upgrades to the player’s loadout. Zenith builds on that foundation rather than introducing a separate game, with PlayStation listing it as a no-additional-cost content update. Official Saros page
More room to react
The most useful change for players who have struggled with the pace may be Slow Game Speed. It preserves enemy attack patterns but gives players more time to read them. The slowdown is adjustable, with automatic activation during combat or a manual toggle.

Weapon Auto-fire removes another physical input by firing when the player aims at an enemy. It does not automate reloading: timing a perfect reload remains the player’s responsibility. Motion Sensor Aiming also joins the control options. Taken together, these changes offer a more specific way to address control and reaction-time barriers than simply making enemies less threatening. Reasons to return to Carcosa
For players who have finished Saros, Eclipse Layers supplies a New Game+ structure that demands more Trial Modifiers as they progress. Zenith adds 20 Carcosan Modifiers overall, split evenly between Protections and Trials. Half are available during the first playthrough; the rest unlock through Eclipse Layers.
There is also Modifier Mastery, earned by defeating enemies with modifiers equipped, and six new trophies. Arjun gains a crown and golden armour after entering Eclipse Layer 2, while new Visions offer more discoveries. High-contrast display can use solid colours, outlines, or both to distinguish Arjun and enemies from the environment. Photo Mode now lets players change Arjun’s expression and toggle the Power Weapon effects on his body. The patch notes also list changes to artifact tiers and drop conditions, including a chance for locked yellow containers to produce higher-tier artifacts. Patch 02.000.000 notes
Overlord Rush is the other major attraction. Incursion and Ascension each group three bosses together, while Totality brings all eight into one gauntlet. Its leaderboard competition requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. PlayStation Blog
A follow-up patch, 02.000.001, is already documented too. It adjusts Overlord Rush’s Overdrive charging and time-bonus thresholds, fixes invisible lucenite, and prevents modifier selections resetting after closing the game when Unlimited Protection Modifiers is enabled. Latest patch notes
For South African owners, the immediate appeal is straightforward: more ways to use a game already in the library, without buying a separate expansion.
