Night City has another reason to pull players back in. CD PROJEKT RED has announced Cyberpunk 2077’s free Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5, for 22 October 2026. The first detailed look is scheduled for today, 21 October, with a South Africa-friendly evening broadcast.
The announcement arrives alongside the Netflix premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. For anyone wondering whether the game patch is already available, keep those two releases separate: the anime has launched, while Update 2.5 is still on the way.
Update 2.5: confirmed platforms and features
According to CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement, the update is due on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 22 October. Nintendo Switch 2 will receive it later; the studio has not supplied an exact date for that version.
The separate REDstreams preview announcement confirms cyberware customisation and a new dual-wielding playstyle. There will also be content inspired by the new anime. The detailed patch notes and feature demonstration are the next things to watch, rather than treating every circulating wishlist as a confirmed addition.
Watch REDstreams at 17:00 SAST today
The broadcast is scheduled for Wednesday, 21 October at 17:00 SAST (15:00 UTC). That is the same instant as the publisher’s advertised 17:00 CEST. You can follow the official YouTube stream or CD PROJEKT RED’s Twitch channel; the studio also lists Steam.
This is the preview broadcast time, not a confirmed unlock time for the patch on 22 October. The release announcement does not establish an exact South African download time or patch size. Wait for the platform-specific rollout information before planning a large download around it.
A new anime story, not a gameplay trailer
The official Edgerunners 2 site describes a standalone, ten-episode story with a fresh cast. Its central figures include Weak, a former cyberpunk legend struggling with life without chrome, and D, a Snake Nation netrunner pursuing revenge. Roman’s obsession with recording real stories and Talia’s ties to Maelstrom add other perspectives on Night City.

The trailer below is for the anime, not footage demonstrating the game update. That distinction matters when judging what is actually coming to your copy of Cyberpunk 2077.
What SA players should do next
If you are returning for the new playstyle, use today’s showcase to decide whether to revisit an existing character or start another run. Switch 2 owners should wait for their own confirmed patch date instead of assuming the PC and current-generation console schedule applies.
For now, the useful dates are clear: the anime premiered on 20 October, the game-update showcase is today, and the first Update 2.5 releases are scheduled for 22 October. No local price conversion or unannounced platform promise is needed.
