Death Stranding Isolations is coming in 2027 as a hand-drawn 2D anime series with an original story set apart from the games. Kojima Productions revealed the project on 30 October alongside its first teaser and key visual.

The announcement names Disney+ and other Disney services as distribution partners, depending on territory. A South African release date and local streaming availability have not been confirmed in the material checked, so the 2027 window should not be read as a confirmed Disney+ South Africa launch.

A new story, not a replay of the games

The important distinction for existing players is that this is a separate story within the Death Stranding universe, rather than a scene-by-scene adaptation of a game. For newcomers, that also changes the question from “which game does this retell?” to how clearly the series can introduce its world on its own terms. The announcement does not establish whether any prior knowledge will be necessary.

E&H production is making the animation. Takayuki Sano directs, with Hideo Kojima serving as executive producer. Tow Ubukata handles the screenplay and series composition, while Ilya Kuvshinov supplies the original character designs. Those credits identify the team behind the series; they are not a promise that it will reproduce the games’ visual style.

Watch the official teaser

The first teaser is a better guide to the project’s intended look than comparisons with screenshots from the games. It is promotional footage for the anime, not gameplay or evidence of a new playable release.

What South African viewers can plan around

For now, 2027 is a release window rather than a viewing date to put in a calendar. There is no basis here to recommend buying a local streaming subscription specifically for the series, or to assume a day-and-date release across territories. The useful next details will be a dated release announcement and confirmation of the service carrying it in South Africa.

The project adds another game-to-anime crossover to follow alongside our Cyberpunk coverage. Its original-story approach gives it room to do something different from a conventional adaptation, but whether that works is a question for the finished series, not an announcement-day verdict.
